Non-Thai Teachers

There is some discretion given to schools employing non-Thai teachers,  but the main guidelines are as follows:

There are three categories of teachers accepted by the Thai Ministry of Education. Under each sub category is a list of the requirements to be certified by the Thai Ministry of  Education.

1. Western teachers who are native English speakers:

(i) Bachelor of  Teaching or Education,  or a Post-graduate Diploma in Teaching or Education.

(ii) A Bachelor of arts / science or similar with at least 15 credit  points in education theory or subjects.  A TESOL certificate may be presented as evidence of education theory and subjects where 15 credits have not been achieved. 

(iii) A course in basic Thai Language and an introduction to Thai culture.

2. Western teachers who are not native speakers of English:

(i) Bachelor of  Teaching or Education, or a Post-graduate Diploma in Teaching or Education.

(ii) A Bachelor of arts / science or similar with at least 15 credit points in education theory or subjects.

(iii) A TOEFL score of 550 or more.

(iv) A course in basic Thai Language and an introduction to Thai culture.

Asian teachers who are bilingual:

(i) Bachelor of  Teaching or Education, or a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching of Education.

(ii) A TOEFL score of 550 or more.
